Diablo 2 Difficulty Levels Guide: Normal, Nightmare and Hell

Diablo 2 Difficulty Levels Guide: Normal, Nightmare and Hell

Diablo 2 Resurrected offers three difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Each difficulty must be unlocked by completing the previous one, with increasingly challenging enemies and better rewards (experience gains and item loots). Here’s an overview of what to expect in each difficulty:

Normal Difficulty

Diablo 2 Normal Difficulty

Every new created character starts on Normal difficulty, where monsters begin at level one and increase in strength as you progress through the five Acts. This difficulty serves as the basic introduction to the game. You can find items such as the Raven Frost Ring, Chance Guards Gloves and Gull Dagger. To note, Hirelings (Mercenaries) and Summons deal only 50% damage to Act bosses. Completing Normal unlocks Nightmare difficulty and grants the title: 'Slayer' for standard characters and 'Destroyer' for Hardcore characters.

Nightmare Difficulty

Diablo 2 Nightmare Difficulty

Upon entering Nightmare, your character and equipment carry over, facing stronger enemies starting around level 40 in Act 1. Enemies have higher stats and increased resistances, while your character and Hireling’s resistances are reduced by 40%. Hirelings and Summons deal only 35% damage to Act bosses. Life and Mana Leech effectiveness is halved, as are curses. Maps are more difficult, and death results in a 5% experience loss, with 75% recoverable upon corpse retrieval. Completing Nightmare unlocks Hell difficulty and titles 'Champion' for standard characters and 'Conqueror' for Hardcore characters.

Hell Difficulty

Diablo 2 Hell Difficulty

Hell difficulty further increases enemy levels and stats, with most monsters gaining at least one immunity. Player and Hireling resistances are reduced by an additional 60 points, making the total penalty 100 points. Hirelings and Summons deal only 25% damage to Act bosses. Life and Mana Leech effectiveness is reduced by two-thirds, and curses last only 25% of their usual duration. Death now incurs a 10% experience penalty, with 75% recoverable upon corpse retrieval. Hell also introduces two exclusive end-game events: Uber Diablo who will drop an Unidentified Annihilus, in-game named as an 'Unique Small Charm (Unidentified)' upon killing him and the Pandemonium Event where you will receive an Unidentified Hellfire-Torch when killing all 3 the Uber Bosses Mephisto, Diablo and Baal. Completing Hell grants titles 'Patriarch' or 'Matriarch' for standard characters and 'Guardian' for Hardcore characters.
